Frequently Asked Chorus Questions
What grades are eligible to join the CLES Chorus?
Grades 3, 4 and 5.
Does my child have to audition to be in chorus?
No. All it takes to be in chorus is a love of singing. Anyone who loves to sing is encouraged to join the chorus.
Is there a fee to join?
No.
How does an interested student sign up?
Interested students sign up with their music teacher during their regular music class. There is not a form that has to be filled out, no signatures, etc.
What do the students do who are NOT in chorus while their classmates are at chorus rehearsal?
They remain with their classroom teacher for “Academic Activities.” These activities generally involve reading and/or writing.
Do the chorus students have to make up the work from Academic Activities?
No. Chorus students will not be required to make up work that is occurring back in their team while they are in chorus.
If my child has not signed up for chorus, and then later regrets that decision, can he/she join chorus at a later time during the school year?
Yes, as long as the regret is due to actually missing the opportunity to sing. The student simply has to let Ms. Brouillet or Mrs. Foster know that by October 9, 2013 he/she would like to switch out of Academic Activities and into chorus.
Can my child drop out of chorus?
No. It is discussed at length during the sign-up process that the student is making a commitment to a performance group and therefore has an obligation to honor that commitment throughout the school year for the betterment of the program. The student should be able to assess whether or not he/she truly likes to sing. (The analogy of a sports team is used to exemplify the commitment to practicing with a team in order to perform their best at games.)
My child wants to join the orchestra or band. Can they be in an instrumental group AND chorus?
YES! Chorus rehearsals do not conflict with the band and orchestra rehearsal time slots. They can be in both, i.e. chorus and band or chorus and strings. Also, the chorus concert and the strings/band concerts are separate events, held on separate evenings.
When and where do the choruses perform?
The Spring Vocal concert is usually at the end of May or early June. The exact date will not be determined until January 2014. All 3 choruses perform at Centennial High School. The 3rd and 4th graders will be presenting selections under a special music theme; the 5th graders will present a mini-musical.
What do they wear for the concert?
The 3rd & 4th graders wear blue jeans, solid colored T-shirts, and tennis shoes, all provided by you. The 5th grader’s attire will be determined later. A notice about the three choruses' attire for the concert will come out in early May.
